(WWJ) A 26-year-old man from Memphis, Michigan, is behind bars on a child abuse charge after it's alleged he sent a small boy to the hospital.

On Feb. 10, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office was contacted
by the Memphis Police Department asking for help in the investigation
of a suspected child abuse case.

Later in the day, Justin McCoy was arrested.

According to investigators, a 4-year-old boy was brought to the Detroit Medical Center Children’s Hospital on Wednesday with multiple injuries — including injuries to his arm and stomach region which required surgery.

The child and his mother were interviewed, officials said, before McCoy was tracked down by Macomb County detectives and taken into custody on an active traffic warrant out of Eastpointe.

McCoy was lodged at the Macomb County Jail, and Children’s Protective Services was notified of the incident.

McCoy was arraigned in 42-1 Romeo District Court Friday and given a $350,000 cash/surety bond. If he's released, McCoy is ordered to wear a GPS tether and have no contact with children. He is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on Feb 23.

The sheriff's office did not disclose the relationship between the defendant and the child in this case.
