(WWJ) -- Officials are warning Macomb County residents about a scammer who is posing as the sheriff's office -- and their methods are high-tech.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said the scam begins when a man calls claiming to be a deputy.
And what makes the scam seem even more legit is that the caller ID will come up as the sheriff's office.
Officials say the scammers will call and demand money in exchange for you getting out of a ticket, a court date or jury duty.
The sheriff's office reminds residents that they will never call and ask for money; if you want to be certain, they advise you to come in and talk to a deputy face-to-face in order to make sure your business with the department is legit.
