DETROIT (WWJ) – An international customer service company has plans to open an office in downtown Detroit, creating an estimated 500 well-paying jobs in the city.
Majorel and city officials announced Thursday the company is planning to bring an office to the city sometime later this year. Majorel, based in Luxembourg, has thousands of employees in more than 30 countries across the globe.
The company is a “leading provider of next-generation end-to-end customer experience solutions for brands around the world,” according to a press release from the city.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says the company plays a major role, even if many might not be familiar with the name.
“These are the folks who are working every day to make your internet experience better,” Duggan said. “If you are on social media, Majorel is touching your lives everyday.”
While the location for the future Majorel office in Detroit hasn’t yet been released, the company is teaming up with Detroit at Work to give Detroit residents priority for the jobs – which will pay a minimum of $17 per hour, with benefits.

The company is holding a job fair this weekend at the Renaissance Center. Officials expect they will hire some employees on the spot.
The job fair runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Workers with interest or experience in social media, customer service and technology are asked to bring a resume to the job fair. Training and education will be made available to employees, so lengthy experience is not required but encouraged. Majorel’s Detroit office will open virtually in April, with workers eventually moving into its offices downtown.
Employees will fill roles in customer service, human resources and operations at levels ranging from entry-level to manager, leading the way with Majorel’s cutting-edge digital native clients.
“Detroiters deserve quality employment that will enhance their qualifications and work experience,” said City Council President Mary Sheffield. “With employers such as Majorel choosing Detroit as their desired location, it further implies what we already know to be true – that Detroit is home to some of the hardest working people in this country.”
Majorel vice president Gus Gikas says Detroit was selected from a group of 50 potential cities.
“We wanted to find a city that is investing in themselves, as well as in their future,” he said. “And we wanted to find a city who’ll exude partnership in every step of the process and at every level. And most importantly find a city that has great residents who have great talents and are interested in our industry.”
