DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 20-year-old Detroit man was arrested over the weekend after trying to flee the cops and ultimately crashing his car.

According to Michigan State Police, at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle exiting the freeway at Southfield Road and Grand River Avenue.

However, the driver sped off, cut around traffic that was stopped at the light at the top of the ramp, and fled the traffic stop.

Officers didn't pursue the suspect per departmental policy, said authorities, but the driver was only able to continue one block north until he lost control and crashed.
