ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a fight in a Planet Fitness parking lot in Ann Arbor escalated to gun violence Tuesday afternoon.
Ann Arbor police officers were called to the parking lot at the Planet Fitness at 2350 West Stadium Boulevard, near Maple and Abbott, around 1 p.m. on reports of shots fired.
When officers showed up they found a 36-year-old man from Gregory, in Livingston County, who had been shot after apparently getting into a fight with a 33-year-old Northville man.
Authorities say when the fight escalated the younger man pulled out a gun and fired two shots, hitting the victim once in his leg.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident.
Officials said the suspect and victim didn’t know each other prior to the shooting. It was not clear what led to the initial fight prior to the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing and police expect to release more details when they become available.
