Man flags down troopers, asks to be arrested after admitting he fatally shot girlfriend at Downriver motel

TAYLOR (WWJ) - Taylor police confirmed one man is in custody in connection to a motel murder on Tuesday evening after the suspect admitted to the crime in a bizarre twist.

According to the department, a man flagged down Michigan State Police troopers while at a gas station on Goddard and Telegraph Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 20.

As troopers talked to the man, he told them to arrest him and admitted to murdering his girlfriend at a nearby motel.

Acting on his information, police responded to the Tel Wick Inn located at 9301 Telegraph Road in Taylor to conduct a welfare check. Upon entering one of the rooms, authorities found a woman deceased with a single gunshot wound.

The man was taken into custody in connection to the incident. The identities of the victim and the suspect were not released by police. No other information was provided.

An investigation remains ongoing.
