DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man appeared before a judge on Wednesday to face charges in the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
Jimmy Acuff, 40, is facing one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, one count of felonious assault, and one count of domestic violence in connection with the violent crime last Sunday.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Acuff and his 30-year-old girlfriend, who is also the mother of his children, got into an argument at the Palace Inn motel in the 22750 block of Grand River Ave. in Detroit.
When the victim got into her car to leave, at around 11:30 a.m., Acuff allegedly punched her in the face before pulling out a pocket knife and stabbing her multiple times.
The victim was taken to local hospital and survived the attack.
Acuff fled the scene, prosecutors said, but was arrested on Monday following an investigation by Detroit Police.
Acuff was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in 36th District Court and ordered held on a $325,000 cash bond. A Probable Cause Conference in the case was scheduled for March 17, followed by a Preliminary Exam on March 24.
Michigan Department of Corrections records show that Acuff has previously been convicted and served prison time on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with attempted to do great bodily harm.
He faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged in this case.
