DETROIT (WWJ) - A single vehicle crash on M-10 in Detroit killed one driver and shut the freeway for several hours as police investigated the incident early Saturday morning.

Detroit Police Public Information Officer Dan Donakowski told WWJ that a male driver behind the wheel of a black Corvette appeared to have gone over a hill near Wyoming Ave. around 2:40 a.m.

The sportscar then crashed onto the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway.

Detroit Police officers responded to the crash and shut down the freeway to process the scene for nearly six hours. It has since been reopened.

Donakowski said the adult male driver, whose identity was not released, sustained fatal injuries.

At this time, it is unknown what caused the Corvette to crash onto the freeway. It is unclear if alcohol, speed or drugs were factors in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
