(WWJ) Bloomfield Township Police are investigating a crash that sent three people to the hospital, including a man who got out of his vehicle on the freeway.

The crash happened a little before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, on southbound I-75 near the exit ramp for Square Lake Road.

According to police, an initial investigation revealed that the driver of a gray 2008 Ram pickup truck stopped on the shoulder and got out to close his tailgate.

While outside the vehicle, the man and his truck were both struck by a black 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan headed southbound on I-75, police said.

Bloomfield Township Police and Fire and Auburn Hills Fire responded to the crash scene, and members of S.O.C.C.I.T. (the Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Team) launched an investigation.

The pickup driver was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition later in the day was unknown.

A passenger in the pickup and the minivan driver were also taken to the hospital for a "precautionary evaluation," police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248-433-7755.
