(WWJ) The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who was hit by a van while trying to cross a busy road on foot.
It happened at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the area of Hall Road and Gratiot Ave. in Macomb Township.
According to investigators, the pedestrian — identified as 61-year-old Reed Styers of Harrison Township — was attempting to cross the north side of westbound Hall to the south side at northbound Gratiot when he was struck by a westbound white Chevy van.
The driver, a 69-year-old Casco Township man, stopped at the scene, called 911, and has been cooperative with investigators.
Witnesses told deputies that the van did have a green light at the time of the crash, although other circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this time.
The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, is not suspected of using drugs or alcohol, the sheriff's office said. He released at the scene pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
