(WWJ) Authorities say an unauthorized marijuana grow operation may have had caused house explosion and fire in Oakland County.

A 29-year-old man was taken by EMS to Detroit Receiving Hospital with severe burns following the incident Monday afternoon, in the 2700 block of Shimmons Rd., just east of I-75 in Auburn Hills. His condition is unknown at this time.

Auburn Hills Police Lt. Scott McGraw said two other people were inside the house at the time were not hurt.

Police investigators believe there was an illegal marijuana grow operation in the basement of the home.

"But with the explosion, the front wall blowing out, it is unstable," WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett reported. "They're worried it may collapse in on itself, so investigators can't get inside just yet to determine what they have."

Rochester and Rochester Hills Fire Departments were called to assist Auburn Hills firefighters.

Arson and narcotics investigators were also on the scene to not only determine the cause of the explosion, but also whether any criminal charges may be filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
