RAPID CITY, MICH. (WWJ) -- A 46-year-old man is now in protective custody after he allegedly danced naked on a Northern Michigan highway with a handgun.

The Wexford County Sheriff's Department says it received multiple 911 calls about a naked man dancing and doing push-ups on southbound US-131, near mile mark 187, in Wexford County on Tuesday night.

Witnesses also reported the Rapid City man pulled out a 9mm handgun. Police said the man, who is a legal gun owner, eventually manually emptied the ammunition from the handgun while witnesses remained on the line.

Michigan State Police and a Wexford County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on the scene and put the subject into protective custody. He was transported to Munson Hospital in Cadillac for a mental health evaluation.
