ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – The search is on for a man who robbed an Ann Arbor gas station for lottery tickets Tuesday night.
It happened around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at a Shell station on the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Huron Parkway, according to Ann Arbor police.
The suspect asked the clerk to buy lottery tickets, then pointed a handgun at the clerk, according to police.
The suspect demanded the clerk to hand over the lotto tickets and money from the cash register.
As the suspect was leaving, officials say he pointed the gun at a customer who had just walked out of the bathroom. He fled the scene before officers arrived.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police describe the suspect as a Black male, possibly 30-35 years old. He was about 6-feet-tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a light gray zip up hoodie jacket and light gray sweatpants. No photos of the suspect were released Wednesday.
Authorities believe the suspect is connected to other similar robberies over the weekend. Officials said a Citgo station on Packard was robbed on Friday, July 28 and a BP station on Washtenaw the following day.
No other details on the previous robberies were released and it was not clear whether the suspect also stole lottery tickets in those incidents.
While Tuesday’s robbery came as the Mega Millions jackpot was over $1 billion – again going unclaimed – officials did not say whether the suspect stole Mega Millions tickets. The Michigan Lottery stops selling tickets for 11 p.m. Mega Millions and Powerball at 10:45 p.m.
Officials are asking anyone who knows something about the alleged robberies to call the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6920 or email the tip line at tips@a2gov.org.
