(WWJ) Detroit police are investigating a dog mauling that has left a 62-year-old man seriously injured.
The victim was attacked at around 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to investigators, while he was walking in the 2900 block of Fullerton on the city's west side.
Somehow, police said, four large dogs got out of their yard and began biting the victim on his legs, shoulder and ear.
It was reported that a witness who was in the area tried help the victim by hitting the dogs with an object.
Once the dogs returned to the yard, the witness secured the gate.
Officers responded to the scene and tried to make contact with the dogs' owner, without success. Animal Control was also notified and responded as well, police said; although it's not clear at this time if the dogs were immediately seized.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition.
Police noted that all of this is preliminary information and is subject to change upon further investigation.
