
CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A 26-year-old man is behind bars after it's alleged he stole a school bus in Washtenaw County and led police on a chase through multiple communities.
The investigation began Sunday night, after Michigan State Police said the suspect stole the Lincoln Consolidated Schools bus that was parked in a lot behind a locked gate in Augusta Twp.
At around 8:20 p.m., police said the man rammed the fence and was able to drive away in the bus.

Police said when the bus was spotted on Willis Rd., and then US-23 and I-94, troopers attempted to stop the stolen bus, but the driver got away.
In Canton Twp., police said the bus ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck, bringing and end to the joy ride.
The occupants of the pickup truck were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The suspect, who is from the Stevenson Lake area in Isabella County, was treated for minor injuries and then taken to jail.
He's facing charges of unauthorized driving away of an automobile, resisting and obstructing, fleeing to elude police, malicious destruction of property and breaking and entering.

It's unclear why the man decided to steal the bus. His name was not immediately released.
