(WWJ) A man was jailed in Northern Michigan on charges that he assaulted his girlfriend after an hours-long argument.

At around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, troopers with the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded to a call from a home on West Otsego Lake Drive in Otsego Lake Township.

A man told a dispatcher that he and his girlfriend had been arguing since Monday afternoon and he "couldn't take it anymore," according to police.

Troopers arrived and spoke with the caller, 59-year-old David Lloyd Ross of Gaylord, who said that he and his girlfriend were yelling at each other and he eventually threw a lamp against the wall.

Ross told police that there was no physical contact between them. However, the girlfriend told police that at one point during the argument Ross pushed her and began to strangle her, MSP said.

Ross was arrested and taken to the Otsego County Jail.

He has since been arraigned in 87-A District Court on one count of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, and one count Domestic Violence.

Bond was set at $5,000, 10% cash/surety and Ross' next court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 2.
