TROY (WWJ) -- A Brighton man is facing his third drunken driving charge after an incident that began with a police call to a Troy CVS last week.

Just after 1 a.m. on Nov. 10, Troy Police responded to the pharmacy store on Long Lake Rd. near Livernois on a report that person who was "believed to be drunk" was trying to leave the store to get into his vehicle and drive.

When officers arrived, they spotted a red SUV leaving the parking lot and were advised by employees that the drunk man was in that vehicle.

Police said the driver traveled just a short distance before pulling into another plaza on Long Lake and getting out of the car.

When officers approached the driver, identified as a 41-year-old man, they noticed that he was checking how what appeared to be fresh damage to the front of his SUV.

When asked what he was doing, police said the driver told officers that he thought someone had hit his vehicle.

Officers noted the driver was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, and there was a "strong odor of intoxicants" coming from his breath.

When police questioned the man, they said he admitted to drinking four or five shots of Fireball prior to driving.

After failing a field sobriety test, the driver submitted to a field sobriety test with a result of .169% BAC, according to the police report.

The man was arrested and transported to the Troy Police Lock-Up where he submitted to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .15% and .16%, police said.

The driver was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) Third Offense. His name was not immediately released.
