DETROIT (WWJ) – A manhunt for a suspect in multiple deadly shootings on Detroit’s northwest side early Sunday morning has come to an end.
Detroit police officials say the man is believed to be responsible for four random shootings that left three people dead early Sunday morning.
Authorities had been searching for him since the early morning hours, but arrested him Sunday evening, officials announced in a tweet Sunday night.
Officials thanked the Detroit community for tips that led to his arrest, as well as Detroit police officers and other law enforcement partners.
"Our investigation is still in the early stages and we promise to provide further information in the coming hours," the tweet said.
He was arrested in the area of Pembroke and Livernois - not far from the scene of the crimes, according to multiple reports.
Authorities have not released the suspect's name, age or hometown, as of 9 p.m. Sunday.
Speaking during a press conference early Sunday afternoon, Detroit Police Chief James White said officers discovered a 40-year-old woman's body in the area of Wyoming and Margarita around 4:45 am.
While police were investigating, a witness walked up and told authorities it appeared there was another victim. That's when police discovered a 28-year-old man that had been shot multiple times near 7 Mile and Wyoming.
Then just before 7 a.m. police found a woman in her 40s who had been shot multiple times in the 19700 block of Livernois -- just north of 7 Mile.
Another male victim in the 19200 block of Pennington at around 7:10 a.m. noticed the suspect peering into the windows of cars. When the victim told the suspect to stop, the suspect turned around shot the victim once.
Authorities did not explicitly say during the press conference which victims were killed or disclose the conditions of the person who was injured. No names or ages of the victims have been released.
White said one of the victims was waiting for a bus, another was walking his dog and another was on the street. None of the victims were robbed in the shootings.
A possible motive remains unclear.
Detroit police officials have released a photo of the suspect, who they were calling armed and dangerous prior to his arrest.

Officials said earlier in the day they believed the suspect is likely in his mid-to-late 20s or possibly early 30s. No further information had been released Sunday night.
In the early stages of Sunday's investigation, police were asking people in the area to stay inside.
