(WWJ) -- Halloween is in the rear-view mirror, leaves are beginning to fall by the thousands, and the days are getting shorter.
Michiganders know that means one thing -- winter is on its way.

Though the metro Detroit area hasn’t seen any snow yet -- or at least enough to cover any roads -- we know it will soon be blanketing the area, and the Michigan Department of Transportation says it’s prepared, despite a growing shortage of workers across the country.
MDOT says they’ve got plenty of equipment and manpower to get through another Michigan winter.
The department has about 1,300 snow plows and salt trucks, while the state has budgeted about $25 million for road salt, and there’s currently about 450,000 tons of it in storage barns across the state.
Luckily, there’s no snow in the immediate future, but experts are predicting an up-and-down winter, with a strong possibility of a big snow storm well into the spring.
