LIVONIA (WWJ) – Two Wayne County men are facing charges after a shooting in Livonia last week left a 16-year-old Detroit boy injured, an incident prosecutors described as a scene out of the "Wild West."
Terrell Morris of Redford was arraigned Monday on seven counts of felonious assault, seven counts of felony firearm, one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of domestic violence.
The charges stem from an incident Friday afternoon when Morris got into an argument at his home on Rensellor Street, near Inkster and 7 Mile Roads, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
While Morris was arguing with a 27-year-old Detroit woman, the 16-year-old boy allegedly approached Morris and shattered a glass door.
Morris then retreated into his home and came back out with a handgun. He fired multiple shots at the victims, police said, hitting the teen in the leg. The woman, a 28-year-old Beverly Hills woman and a 45-year-old Redford man were not injured in the shooting.
Meanwhile, Lamont Sherman of Detroit allegedly tampered with handgun evidence at the crime scene before fleeing. Sherman also allegedly lied to police about the location of the gun during the investigation.
Sherman was arrested on Sunday and charged with one count each of lying to a peace officer and tampering with evidence.
Authorities have not said what sparked the initial argument or what exactly Sherman did to tamper with evidence.
Both Morris and Sherman were arraigned Monday in 16th District Court in Livonia. Morris was remanded to jail, while Sherman received a $100,000 bond.
“The evidence in this case will show that this prolonged shooting in Livonia in broad daylight was reminiscent of shooting on the frontier in the Wild West,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, per a press release. “This potentially deadly behavior occurred in a residential neighborhood and put people in grave danger.”
A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 7.
