HARTLAND TWP. (WWJ) -- Two men from Georgia were pulled over by Michigan State Police who found a huge amount of methamphetamine in their vehicle.
It happened at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to MSP, along US-23 near Clyde Road, near Hartland Township in Livingston County.
Police said troopers with the MSP Third District Hometown Security Team conducting a traffic stop on a Georgia plated Ford Fusion "became suspicious of criminal activity."
The troopers searched the car to find approximately 20 lbs, of crystal meth, police said, with a street value of around $40,000.
Both suspects, a 43-year-old man and 60-year-old man identified as Georgia residents, were arrested on scene and turned over to a local multi-jurisdictional drug task force for further investigation.
The drugs were seized.
MSP said in a news release that the purpose of Michigan State Police Hometown Security Teams is to enhance traffic safety on Michigan’s roadways through enforcement of the motor vehicle code and high visibility as their primary focus. Their secondary role, MSP said, focuses on the interdiction of controlled substances, weapons, and illegal trafficking. "Michigan State Police troopers will continue to provide the citizens of Michigan with a safer community through proactive drug related enforcement and cooperative efforts with local and federal law enforcement agencies," police added.
The names of the two men have not been released, pending an arraignment on expected charges.
Police did not say where they believe the suspect men were headed with the haul.
