WWJ -- On Friday, The Daily J chronicled the drastic rise in alcohol sales throughout the pandemic. That rise has consequences -- the number of people seeking alcohol abuse treatment has also increased.
WWJ's Zach Clark spoke with Sara Tigay, the clinical Manager at Skywood Outpatient in Royal Oak, about how they are dealing with a crush of new patients.
Tigay says the number of patients they're taking on now is about triple what it was before the pandemic. About 95,000 Americans die yearly because of excessive alcohol abuse, according to the CDC. Anyone in need of help can find resources at https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline.
More information on Skywood Outpatient can be found on their website.
