(WWJ) – We’re still more than two months out from the official start of winter, but the Upper Peninsula is already bracing for a big snowstorm.
And here in Metro Detroit, our first snowfall of the season may be in store this week, albeit much lighter than what’s expected up north.
A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect Sunday night for the Marquette area, which could see up to eight inches of snow into Monday and upwards of two feet through Tuesday. AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz says flakes could be flying in Southeast Michigan Monday and Tuesday.
“‘Tis the season,” Benz said live on WWJ Sunday morning. “A pretty cold air mass moving in. Thankfully we’re not talking about any accumulations anywhere close to Metro Detroit.”
As for Sunday, Benz says “enjoy it while it lasts,” because a high around 60 degrees will quickly fade, with a low of 39 expected overnight.
Benz says Monday will be “just not the nicest day around.”
“Much colder and it will be blustery with a few showers that can mix in with a few wet snowflakes,” he said.
Monday’s high is only expected to hit 45 degrees. Tuesday looks like a carbon copy, with a high of 46, more blustery winds and a rain/snow mix.
“Temperatures will slowly rebound, though, towards the end of the week,” Benz said.
