Metro Detroit high school released due to partial power outage

High school students at one Walled Lake school got a surprise day off after power issues caused school officials to release classes early on Tuesday.

WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - High school students at one Walled Lake school got a surprise day off after power issues caused school officials to release classes early on Tuesday.

Walled Lake Western High School suffered a partial power outage sometime around 8 a.m. according to the DTE status report on the company's power outage map; district officials made the decision to send students home after learning the timeline to restore power to the high school was unknown.

"The District deeply regrets the inconvenience this creates for our students and families," officials said on Walled Lake Western's webpage. Please check your emails for further updates throughout the day on the status of the power restoration process."

As of 10:15 Tuesday morning, DTE updated the restoration time to 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the outage remains unknown.
