(WWJ) -- It’s a windy morning in southeastern Michigan.
The National Weather Service has upgraded a high wind advisory to a warning for some areas of the state, lasting through 4 p.m.
Gusts up to 60 mph are possible in some parts of metro Detroit throughout the day, which could result in power outages.
As of 2 p.m., an estimated 6,986 DTE customers were reportedly without power in southeast Michigan.
An additional 124,000 outages were also reported by Consumers Energy across the state.
DTE Energy president and CEO Trevor Lauer told WWJ that the utility is prepared, but when wind gusts reach a certain point, outage problems become inevitable.
“It’s been a crazy year for our customers in 2021,” Lauer said. “We’ve had six tornados, and we’ve had hurricane-force winds come through. Last weekend we had gusts almost to 70 miles-per-hour. So that line of 50-to-60 mile-an-hour gusts really makes a big difference on the level of outages.”
Along with outages, fallen trees and damage to unsecured outdoor objects are also possible.
Power outages can be reported online using the DTE Energy app, or by called 1-800-477-4747.
