(WWJ) A Northern Michigan man been arrested for making terrorist threats against the state's Unemployment Insurance Agency and its employees.
Michigan State Police were called after the agency reported it received a threatening voicemail from the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Douglas Melrose of Twining.
In the recording, MSP said Melrose stated the message was for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and mentioned how unhappy he was with her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues.
The suspect also stated his name and telephone number, according to authorities
After mentioning his complaints, Melrose allegedly said he planned to load his guns, drive to the State Capitol, kill everyone he could find in the state's unemployment office, and then kill himself.
He proceeded to say if the State of Michigan didn't give him the money he was owed, he would travel to Lansing and "start shooting," according to MSP.
Melrose was charged with making a terrorist threat, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Troopers from the MSP West Branch Post were able to locate the suspect in Arenac County, and take him into custody without incident
Bond was set at $500,000 at an arraignment in Arenac County District Court on Monday.
Officials said Melrose remains lodged in the Arenac County Jail.
