(WWJ) – A northern Michigan man could be looking at up to life in prison after pleading guilty to giving another man fentanyl, leading to his death.

Chase Rosenthal of Houghton Lake pleaded guilty Wednesday in Roscommon County Circuit Court to one count of delivery causing death, Attorney General Dana Nessel Announced.

Rosenthal, 28, admitted to giving fentanyl to another Houghton Lake man on Memorial Day weekend 2022. Hours later, the victim was found dead of a fentanyl overdose.

Officials did not release the victim's name and did not say whether Rosenthal knew him prior to giving him fentanyl.

“Controlled substances like Fentanyl carve devastation through families and across communities,” Nessel said, per a press release. “My Department will use every resource available to fight back against the deadly opioid epidemic and hold accountable those who distribute narcotics and prey upon Michigan residents suffering from substance use disorder.”

Delivery causing death is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Rosenthal is set to be sentenced in September.

The Michigan State Police investigated the case.
