HOLLY TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- Just because it can, doesn’t mean you should.
That’s the message Michigan State Police are sending Monday after busting a driver for driving his car more than 150 mph on a metro Detroit freeway over the weekend.
Authorities say around 7 a.m. Sunday a trooper was stationary on his motorcycle along I-75 near Lahring Road in Holly Township when he was registering 155 mph readings on his radar gun.
The trooper saw a white Dodge Charger Hellcat “recklessly passing all other vehicles heading northbound.” The trooper used his laser, which returned showing speeds of 150 mph as the vehicle continued to approach.
He was able to catch up with the vehicle about a mile later and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for reckless driving and issued a citation for window tint.
MSP said Monday afternoon the Hellcat was “currently sitting in a tow yard.”
