ALPENA (WWJ) – A woman from Northern Michigan is facing charges for allegedly trying to cover up the sexual assault of a minor.
Michigan State Police officials say they were investigating an alleged sexual assault of a minor when they discovered 29-year-old Stingray Sheyann-Jean Thompson of Alpena had been trying to help the suspect.
Authorities have not released any details about the alleged assault, including the suspect’s name, but MSP officials say Thompson was trying to help the suspect avoid prosecution by convincing the victims to lie to investigators.
She did this through coercion and bribery, according to MSP.
Thompson was arrested on Monday and arraigned Tuesday in 88th District Court in Alpena County. She’s facing one count of accessory after the fact to a felony, one count of interfering with a police investigation and one count of lying to an officer during a violent crime investigation.
Her bond was set at $50,000 or 10%. She’s scheduled to appear in court on May 17.
Thompson was charged back in January for stealing a woman’s purse at a Walmart in Alpena, according to a story from 9 & 10 News. Authorities said she snatched the purse, took it into a bathroom, and then tried using multiple cards to purchase items until one went through.
