The mystery about the future of FiatChrysler CEO Mike Manley is over. He will be "Head of Americas" of Stellantis, the new company to be created out of the merger of FiatChrysler and French carmaker PSA.

"Mike has taken the rough terrain of the past couple of years in stride," said FCA Chairman John Elkann, in an email to employees.  "We have been fortunate to have him as CEO."

Manly took the top job at FiatChrysler in the summer of 2018, with the unexpected death of Sergio Marchionne.

But, there had been no mention of him in several earlier announcements about the impending merger with PSA.  It had been known since the beginning that current PSA CEO Carlos Tavares would be CEO of the new company, and that current FCA Chairman John Elkann would be chairman.

Manley's responsibilities as "Head of Americas" have not been defined.  It's likely that he will be in charge of all of the historic Chrysler brands, as well as the American operations of brands like Alfa Romeo, Maserati and, possibly, Peugeot, which will be sold in North and South Americas.

Prior to becoming CEO, Manley ran FiatChrysler's most important brands, Jeep and Ram.  He also ran international operations.

The merger is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021.
