DETROIT (WWJ) – A months-long search for a missing elderly man in Detroit has ended after police found his body stuffed in a trash can on Detroit’s east side last week.
Police officials said Wednesday 76-year-old Walter Dansby, who had gone missing from the 12800 block of Gable – near E. McNichols and Mound Roads – back in January, was found dead on May 17.
Authorities responded to a 911 call last week and found Dansby’s badly decomposed body in the same block he was reported missing – inside a trash can near his home.
Authorities said during a press conference Wednesday they had received inquiries and tips over the last few months regarding this case, and eventually made a break in the investigation.
A suspect was arrested on Monday, but officials did not release any information about the suspect. Police are still interviewing the person in custody and collecting other evidence.
Officials did not release a cause of death or a motive in the case.
Detroit police began a search for Dansby back in March, when he had been missing for a couple months. Authorities said at the time he had health issues and believed he may have been driving his Pontiac Grand Prix.
