WINDSOR TWP. (WWJ) – Cleanup efforts are underway after an armored truck went off the freeway south of Lansing Wednesday afternoon, throwing money from the truck in a ditch.

The crash happened around noon on eastbound I-96 near Waverly Road in Windsor Township. The Loomis truck couldn’t stop in time for a traffic backup and clipped a vehicle before losing control and overturning in a ditch, according to Michigan State Police.

The driver and another person in the truck sustained minor injuries, MSP officials said. Their ages were not released.

The other vehicle involved was damaged, but the driver was not injured, according to MSP.

Money was thrown from the truck after the crash, but it was picked up by another Loomis armored truck, officials said.

Photos from the scene show the truck upside down with debris from the truck scattered in the ditch. The other vehicle was taken away by a tow truck.

Traffic remained heavy in the area for several hours after the crash.
