(WWJ) – Lasers can do all kinds of cool stuff, some more important than others. From LASIK eye surgery, to burning a CD or even simply entertaining a pet with a laser pointer on the wall – there are endless uses of lasers.

But now, scientists on the campus of the University of Michigan are about to unveil a wildly powerful laser – or a series of lasers, rather -- that could lead to big scientific discoveries. That’s a little more important than burning a mixtape.

On a new Daily J, WWJ’s Zach Clark explores where science-fiction and reality meet and finds out what local researchers will be trying to do with ZEUS – a laser that is “powerful enough to warp the fabric of space-time.”
