Mother, 3 children in critical condition after house fire in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) – A woman and her three young children are in the hospital after a house fire Monday afternoon on Detroit’s west side.

Firefighters were called around 2 p.m. Monday to a home on Kentucky Street – near McNichols Road and Wyoming Avenue – and found three children inside.

The mother, who is in her late 20s, and all three children are said to be in critical condition, all suffering from smoke inhalation.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell tells WWJ the children are believed to be a 4-5-month-old girl, a 5-year-old girl and a 2- or 3-year-old boy.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. The investigation is still ongoing.
