DETROIT (WWJ) – A motorcycle driver is dead after a bizarre chain of events late Saturday night in Detroit.
Michigan State Police officials say there was a two-car crash along southbound I-75 near Clark on Detroit’s southwest side around 11:30 p.m. in which a car struck an electronic MDOT construction sign.
Authorities say that crash sent the electronic sign flying into the northbound lanes of the freeway, coming to a rest in the left lane.
MSP officials say a car was traveling in that left lane and had to swerve to avoid the sign, but sideswiped a motorcycle in the next lane.
Authorities say the biker was killed, but did not release their name or age.
The driver of the passenger car was not hurt in the incident, MSP officials said.
It was not clear whether anyone was injured in the initial crash that sent the electronic sign across the freeway. Authorities did not say what caused the initial crash.
MSP officials are still investigating the fatal crash and once it is complete it will be sent to the prosecutor’s office to review for any possible charges.
MSP officials say while troopers were investigating the crash on I-75, they heard shots ring out as two cars were passing by. It was unclear whether anyone was injured in that shooting, but authorities are investigating.
