(WWJ) A teacher at a community college who's also involved with a church in Genesee County has been busted in a sting operation.

Announcing the case against 48-year-old David Dues of Burton, Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson said investigators believe that there may be additional victims.

The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team or GHOST last week set up an undercover operation that led to the arrest of Dues, whom Swanson said believed he was going to have sex with a 15-year-old girl.

During what he called a "spinoff investigation," Swanson said deputies discovered child and infant pornography on a secret folder on Dues’ phone.

"The reason why I'm coming to you now is I want you to see this face and I want you to know that predators are among us," the sheriff said, in a video message on Facebook. "I've said it before...They lurk all around us. They're always seeking people that are vulnerable; they're always seeking people to take advantage of."

Swanson said Dues, was a part-time HVAC teacher at Mott Community College and is also a member of a church security team, was charged by the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office with 23 felony counts; 22 of them 20-year offenses.

"We've already communicated with Mott and he's already been terminated...but he taught kids, he taught young adults," the sheriff said.

Swanson stressed that this remains an open investigation.

"Because he was a teacher and he was part of a local church in Davison...if there is somebody out there that was abused by him, I want to protect you," the sheriff said. "Law enforcement wants to protect you, and we're going to give you that option. Because at 48 years old doing what he did, it didn't start overnight."

Dues was arraigned on 11 counts of child sexually abusive activity, 11 counts of computers – using to commit a crime, and one count of children – accosting for immoral purposes. He was ordered held on a $23,000 cash bond.

Anyone who was victimized by this suspect, or who has any information about other alleged crimes by Dues, is urged to call GHOST at 810-257-3422.
