State Police investigating mysterious deaths of husband and wife in southwest Michigan

HOWARD TWP. (WWJ) -- Police in southwest Michigan are investigating after a married couple was found dead at their Cass County home on Sunday.

Responding to Shady Shores Dr. in Howard Township at around 10:20 a.m., troopers with the Michigan State Police Niles Post found a 46-year-old woman dead outside a home with apparent gunshot wounds.

Inside the house, troopers found a 42-year-old man, later identified as the woman's husband. also dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

Speaking with family members, troopers were able to determined that the couple had been living in the home for at least two years.

As for what happened, neighbors told police that they'd heard the sound of gunfire the day before, Saturday, Oct. 22, between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

At this point, police said they don't know who would have killed the couple, or why.

There have been no arrests in the case, and no suspects in what police called the "suspicious deaths" have been named or described.

MSP added, however, that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.

Autopsies were scheduled for both victims.
