ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) – Michigan State Police are still searching for answers after they were called to the scene of a reported shooting in Royal Oak Township early Sunday morning.
MSP received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of Glen Lodge Road and Cloverdale Avenue – near 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue – around 2 a.m.
When troopers arrived, they found numerous shell casings in the street around a Mazda SUV, which had several bullet holes.
But when authorities spoke to a group of people in the area, they said they had been outside all night, but hadn’t seen anything. Officials did not say how many people were involved.
While troopers were processing the scene, that group “became more aggressive and tried to enter the scene,” MSP officials said on Twitter. Officials say the people “gradually began shouting” and Oak Park Public Safety was called in to help control the crowd and secure the scene.
Troopers also discovered two other vehicles near the Mazda had been hit by gunfire and there were two bullet holes in the front door of a home on Glen Lodge. Investigators found additional handgun casings on the porch.
The residents inside the home were also uncooperative.
In total, police found more than 20 shell casings near the scene, including both handgun and rifle.
It was not clear what may have led to the shooting.
Dispatchers checked all local hospitals for any gunshot victims, but none were located.
As of Sunday morning, none of the vehicle owners or residents of the home were cooperating with investigators.
MSP officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Metro North Post at 248-584-5740 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain anonymous.
