LAPEER COUNTY (WWJ) Michigan State Police found a lost toddler in Lapeer County with the help of InfraRed technology.
The rescue was chronicled in the video.
“He’s going to be a two-year-old male, autistic…” a member of the aircrew said.
The journey to find the little boy started about two hours earlier, when he ran away from his home around 9 p.m. on Memorial Day.
However, the MSP helicopter, “Trooper 2,” just joined the search minutes before they started filming.
“Trooper 2” spotted a small heat signature in a wooded area about five minutes after taking flight, barely a small white dot glimmering in the video.
“I got something I’d like you to check. It’s directly east of the residence. There’s a field behind the residence, then a tree line and it opens up to another field. I got a little hot spot under a tree.”
The aircrew guided the deputies and troopers to the heat signature. You can see them on the ground below with flashlights as they follow the aircrew’s directions.
“It’s right at the base of this tree,” a member of the aircrew said. “Something’s right at the base of this tree. It could be water, could be some rocks.”
Happily, it wasn’t water or rocks.
“It’s him. We got him! He’s alright.” A trooper or deputy on the ground called out.
“Great work, guys!” the aircrew said. “Great work!”
They did not specify exactly where this happened.
The little boy has been reunited with his family.
