TAYLOR (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police is now investigating a felonious assault following an early morning Downriver shooting on I-94 that they say was targeted -- and not a random incident.

At about 2 a.m., authorities said a person called 911 saying they were shot at and hit on westbound I-94, near Telegraph Road, in Taylor.

Officials said the passenger was shot at several times by someone inside of a pickup truck full of people.

The passenger is currently undergoing surgery in critical condition. The driver was not hurt.

Police were told by a witness that the suspected shooter continued to head west on I-94 after the shooting.

If the suspect is found and convicted, they could face up to four years in prison and have to pay up to a $2,000 fine.

Anyone with information is asked to call MSP at 734-287-5000 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587). People can also submit a tip online at 1800speakup.org.

As always, all those who contact Crime Stoppers will stay 100% anonymous. They are not asked to provide their names, and are not required to speak to police or to testify in court.
