(WWJ) – Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to take it slow on the roads this winter after multiple crashes involving troopers on Thursday.

MSP in West Michigan said on Twitter a trooper sustained a minor injury after his vehicle was struck while parked in the median.

While it wasn’t exactly clear what happened, authorities shared pictures of the trooper’s car being towed out of the snow along I-94 near Van Buren County’s Hartford.

"Conditions can change very quickly as you travel. Please be cautious and alter your driving habits in inclement weather," MSP said.

MSP didn’t provide any details about the other patrol vehicle that was struck.

The incidents came as a heavy dose of snow pounded the lakeshore. Many schools in West Michigan had snow days on Wednesday and Thursday and others were expecting another on Friday.

Some areas saw a little more than a foot of snow. WOOD TV in Grand Rapids reported it was the biggest snowfall in the area since 2016.

While metro Detroit saw snow on New Year’s Day, accumulations have been more modest, with the heaviest totals between 3-6 inches. There have still been a handful of incidents on local freeways, though.
