EATON COUNTY (WWJ) - A state trooper made quite a discovery on Tuesday after they conducted a traffic stop on a semi truck driver, only to find out the man behind the wheel was wanted for murder in another state.
Michigan State Police said one of their motor carrier officers -- an armed member responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement -- found out about the warrant after pulling over a semi truck out of Georgia on west Saginaw Highway in Delta Township, just west of Lansing.
The trooper was originally conducting the stop over a violation, MSP added, but the interaction changed when a check on the diver came back with a warrant for his arrest out of Georgia for murder.
The man, a resident of Georgia, was arrested by the trooper without incident.
"Search of vehicle found the driver in possession of a stolen handgun with a 17 round magazine, and 31 round magazine," state police continued. "Driver also had police grade “pepper spray” which is illegal to possess in the state of Michigan."

MSP praised the officer for his quick work and said the suspect was taken to the Easton County Jail on charges of Carrying a concealed weapon, Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Dangerous Weapon-CS Gas.
The driver is also pending extradition to Georgia on the murder warrant.
