DETROIT (WWJ) -- A fire broke out early Thursday morning at a popular deli in Corktown.

According to officials, at around 4:40 a.m., flames erupted inside of Mudgies, located at 1300 Porter Street in Detroit.

After hearing popping noises and shortly thereafter seeing a fire, a man who lives next to the business called 911, reports WWJ's Charlie Langton.

"It honestly sounded like gunshots," the neighbor said. "It kept on going so I came outside to see what it was."

The Detroit Fire Department arrived and quickly put out the flames.

The sandwich shop sustained most of its damage in the back of the building where the wine shop is located -- the deli area does not appear to be damaged.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

This is a developing story. Stay with WWJ for the latest.
