COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) – A 57-year-old Oakland County man has died after being run over by a pontoon boat Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies and the Commerce Township Fire Department were called to Lower Straits Lake around 5 p.m. Saturday after getting reports of a crash involving a swimmer.
When first responders showed up they found the Novi man lying on shore with multiple large lacerations to his right arm, leg and torso.
He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned the man had been swimming about 50-to-75 yards from shore when he was hit by the pontoon.
He wasn't wearing a life jacket and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
The victim’s name has not been released.
