(WWJ) -- Now that federal health authorities have given the green light to the Pfizer pediatric vaccine, Oakland County is gearing up to get kids ages 5 to 11 vaccinated.
On Thursday, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter, joined by pediatricians, announced the arrival of a number of school-based clinics throughout the county to get as many as 100,000 kids vaccinated.
Coulter put out a personal plea to parents to get their kids vaccinated in order to keep their families, communities, schools, the state and the entire country safe.
In preparation, the county has received over 14,000 pediatric doses earlier this week. The first clinic in Oakland County to offer the pediatric vaccines will open on Monday, Nov. 8 at Hazel Park High School -- which is already all booked up.
Nearly 4,000 Oakland County kids have already been signed up to receive their pediatric COVID-19 dose so appointments are strongly recommended.

Kate Guzman, registered nurse and Oakland County public health administrator said that the clinics will be offering many weekend and evening options to make sure children won’t be missing school to get their shots.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 7,000 Oakland County children under the age of 10 have tested positive for COVID-19.
