REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) – A Dearborn Heights woman is facing a long list of charges after allegedly firing her gun at another driver during a road rage incident earlier this month.
Keshia Hamilton, identified in reports as an off-duty medic for the Detroit Fire Department, is accused of opening fire the morning of March 17 in the area of Beech Daly Rd. and Davison St. in Redford Township.
Redford Township police officers were called to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. that morning. When they showed up they found a woman whose car had been shot at. She was not injured.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, shortly before 8 a.m. on the day of the shooting, Hamilton and the the victim were both driving north on Beech Daly. When the victim didn't let Hamilton merge in front of her, it is alleged that Hamilton started yelling before pulling a gun and shooting at the victim’s vehicle.
Prosecutors said Hamilton, 34, then followed the victim east on Aubrey St. before getting out of her car to confront the victim. She then got back into her vehicle and fled the scene.
Hamilton's young daughter was in the car at the time of the alleged shooting, officials said.
The victim called police, and investigators eventually identified Hamilton as the suspect.
Hamilton was arraigned Wednesday on one count each of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, discharging a weapon from a vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon and fourth-degree child abuse.
She was also charged with four counts of felony firearm. Her bond was set at $50,000 or 10%. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 11.
Detroit Fire Department officials said they were made aware of Hamilton’s arrest the same day and removed her from active duty, according to a report by WDIV-TV. The department could not comment further, pending the ongoing case.
