Officer-involved shooting in West Michigan leaves one dead

SALEM TWP., MICH. (WWJ) -- One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting on Michigan's west side.

The Allegan County Sheriff says it happened in Salem Township, which is south of Grand Rapids, just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and during the stop, the deputy was involved in a shooting, and the suspect was killed.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, but his injuries are not believed to be serious at this time.

Michigan State Police are investigating.

More details have not been released at this time.
