Officers shoot man who pointed gun at Clinton Township apartment residents: police

(WWJ) An armed Clinton Township man who barricaded himself in an apartment for eight hours early Thursday has been shot by police officers.

The situation unfolded just after 12:30 a.m., when a 911 caller reported that the man had been pointing a gun at residents of an apartment complex at Shook Rd. and Klix St.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man went into his apartment with a rifle, police said.

Hostage negotiators tried to get the suspect to come out, without sucess.

After a lengthy standoff, Police Chief Bruce Wade said in a release that the situation ended when the man was shot at 8:05 a.m.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where his current condition is unknown. His name has not been released.

No one else was hurt.

Further details about what led up to the shooting are still unclear at this time.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
