One driver shoots another after crash in Pontiac, argument in Waterford Township

WATERFORLD TWP. (WWJ) -- Police are investigating a traffic crash and dispute that ended in a shooting, Tuesday evening in Waterford Township.

According to Waterford Township Police, the whole thing started in Pontiac on Tuesday when a 37-year-old man driving a Chevy Impala rear-ended a Chevy Malibu driven by a 55-year-old man, with a 30-year-old female passenger.

Following the crash, the drivers continued westbound on Huron St., into Waterford where they pulled over near Voorheis Rd., at around 5:30 p.m.

According to police, the Malibu driver got out of the car and was standing in the roadway, arguing with the other driver.

Both men were "exchanging words," police said, when the Impala driver put his car in reverse and drove directly at the other driver.

That's when the the 55-year-old pulled out a 9mm handgun and fired two shots, hitting the other driver once.

The 37-year-old man was taken by EMS to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No one else was hurt.

Investigators interviews witnessed at the scene, and the shooter was taken to a police station for questioning. Police noted that he does have a valid license to carry.

Once the investigation is complete, police said case will be sent to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office which will determine charges.
