TAYLOR (WWJ) -- Police converged on Southland Center mall after multiple 911 calls came in about shots fired, Tuesday afternoon, leaving one person injured.
Taylor Police Lt. Frank Canning said officers in the area responded "within seconds" following the shooting shortly 1 p.m. at the shopping center on Eureka Road at Pardee in Taylor.
On the scene, outside the Forever 21 store, police found one victim — a young man — by himself with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his shoulder.
A witness in a nearby restaurant told police he saw the victim initially running out of the mall with a small group of people before turning back, and getting shot.
The young man was taken to a hospital for treatment, Canning said, and there were no immediate arrests in the case.
The lieutenant told WWJ's Jon Hewett that the wounded man has so far refused to cooperate with investigators, who continue to speak with witnesses to get more information about what took place.
"But this was, appears to be, isolated between a group of young men, which then fled from the property," Canning said.
As of 2 p.m. there was a large police presence on the scene, including Michigan State Police, Taylor police and mall security officers. By 3:30 p.m., police had cleared the scene, although Canning said this remains an open investigation.
There is no description of the suspected shooter at this time.
